Wedding Workouts to Avoid!

Wedding workout in the treesYour big day is important and you want to look your best for it. Sometimes that impulse can lead us for falling for ‘fad’ workouts. Make no mistake, some of these can work, but many are difficult, and some can even be dangerous for your health! The worst part is, once you’ve finished with the fad workout, many times, you don’t achieve the results you’re promised, or you’re stuck with expensive equipment that you can’t return!
Some of the wedding workout fads can be useful, but the effects are temporary and generally without much backing them up, and then when you’ve finished and haven’t seen any of the promised results, you’ve wasted that time and aren’t any closer to your goals.

So what should you watch out for?

Avoid any programs that force you to buy expensive equipment! Even with a generous payment plan, they’re expensive, unwieldy and generally impossible to return (no matter what the announcer at 3am told you). These programs are only trying to sell you the equipment that rarely has any science behind the claims they make. The best thing you can do is observe the exercises they’re promoting and learn how those muscles are actually worked and how you can do those exercises in the privacy of your own home.

As an addendum to the above, avoid wedding workouts that require you to purchase specialized food that goes along with the workout. These overpriced ‘energy’ or diet bars are nothing more than repackaged stuff that you could buy for half the price at the store. The best thing to do is to find a good diet that works for you. Eating can be hard, but if you’re truly ready to get the body you’ve always wanted, you’ll make the time to learn how to eat the way that will make you look (and feel) the best. It doesn’t have to be torture to make dinner every night! Staying prepared at home (and on the go) is key!

shake weightAvoid those wedding workouts that overpromise results. If they say you’re going to be rocking a six pack within two weeks, then start looking for the exit. It’s nice to imagine that you’ll have the body you’ve always wanted without doing anything to earn it, but that’s just not how our physiology works unfortunately.

Finally, avoid those workouts that ask you to do too much too quickly. While inanity and P90X have helped people get some amazing results, there’s a very high attrition rate when beginning the exercise program because it’s so difficult for people who haven’t worked out in a long time. Get in shape the best way you can – if you’re too heavy then start with walking, and eating right. Then move onto higher impact types of exercise that will help melt the fat off the body quicker.

In reality, no two people are the same, so what may work for someone, another will fail miserably at. The only thing that really works is by making a commitment to yourself of getting healthy and knowing that means that you have to get up every morning and start a routine that takes your body through a complete workout. Combining cardio, with a weight program is the best way to achieve the results you desire.
